This food has saved my dogs life, twice. Old dog, kidney disease, and a host of other problems. He has an aversion to anything that has gums in it – and he can sniff them out. Oh, and he won’t eat rice, this has potato. Truly appreciate the use of porcine plasma in this product. The fructooligosaccharides (FOS), dried sugar beet pulp, guar gum, carrageenan, and complex “beta-bond” plant starches (like peas, whole corn, and whole grains) found in traditional commercial dog foods have been nothing but problematic following mutiple rounds of antibiotics resulting in dysbiosis. The stuff turns his colon into a balloon full of painful gas, and it’s been painful figuring out the triggers. Try finding renal dog food that doesn’t have all this stuff in it. So this food has been a life saver. When he wouldn’t eat anything else he would eat this. It’s a lower phosphorus non prescription option and we deal with the higher protein by mini mealing to avoid any spikes. Rebuilding gut flora isn’t easy. Thanks First Mate you’ve saved us when we needed it.
