Switched my senior cat and older kitten to this food and they both LOVE it! I can’t fill the bowls fast enough. I love that it has a urinary health profile and is low in phosphorous for my senior kitty for kidney health.

This is a great choice for cats with sensitivities. Our two rescues are happier and healthier for it! We’ve gone through many high-end foods, but most of them market towards human food trends, and so as you can imagine, they’re much too rich for felines. The cats seem to prefer this flavour to the fish one, so we’re going to stick to it. I’ve recommended it to friends whose cats had similar issues (digestive/urinary), and it seems to be the miracle cure for all of them. Hope the formula stays the same forever!

My cat is exhibiting signs of allergies so I switched to this food since it has limited ingredients. My cat absolutely loves it however it seems very hard and she is having a difficult time chewing it. She is only 2 years old so we’re not dealing with any tooth issues. I hope switching to this food helps with her itching and scratching.

I have a senior cat, and I feed her a mix of dry and wet foods, as I work long hours, so the dry is more… convenient, I guess? What else do you do when you are gone for 12plus hours? Anyway, we’ve been through a lot of dry kibble brands, most recently Go! Natural. I discovered through trial and error that peas make my cat vomit profusely, so it really limits what kind of dry I can feed here.

She loves the FirstMate wet cat food, so today when she was at the vet’s for her yearly appt, I got her a bag of Chicken and Blueberries dry kibble, as the vet said it was obvious she was having some food allergies.

For the first time in years, she got really excited over her kibble, even preferring it to her wet portion of FirstMate, and although I had side-to-side bowls of the Go! Natural and FirstMate Chicken and Blueberries, upon her return from the vet she only ate from the FirstMate dry bowl.

Well, I’m sold, since she is, and with the limited ingredients, it should make tracking her allergies much easier. Thank you for being local, for making good quality food, and for caring about the animals we share our lives with. It does make a difference.

I’m from Croatia and I’ve been feeding my ferret with this. Usually, ferrets are very picky and they need food with high levels of protein. When I got her, there was no way I could make her eat raw chicken, the requested diet for ferrets. She didn’t want to eat it and I started searching high quality dry food, which is quite scarce here. i found few brands that had no grain and lots of protein but somehow it wasn’t enough according to the vet. and ferret dry food is out of the question since it contains grains, potato, pees, and what-nots which makes no sense.

I found this product by accident in a local store and I have definitely noticed she gained in weight in the last two years and she still happily munches on First Mate kibble. this is obviously a fine quality cat food that I’ll continue buying.

This is the only dry cat food all 4 of my cats agree on. I don’t know if they prefer the shape, the flavor, or both, but they will eat this over something more expensive like Orijen.

My boy loves this stuff so much and yowls at the closet door where it is kept. He is supposed to be eating the wet food only because I know the moisture content is important…so he gets FirstMate chicken pate. But this kibble? Holy smokes. He has learned to turn doorknobs to get to it. We refer to it as his crack cocaine and he unashamedly admits he is powerless over his addiction. And we are enablers.

I have a manx cat and this is the only cat food I found that keeps her stool firm. Any of the others would make her runny. I recommend it highly.

I am so happy to finally find a limited ingredient dry cat food without flax or peas in it! I feed my 14-year old cats both wet and dry foods. I transitioned them from Natural Balance LID dry to this dry food because one cat was itching his ears like crazy. I figured out it was the flaxseed. They love this food and experienced no vomiting or diarrhea during or after the switch. Thank you so much for making this excellent food!! My search is over.

I have 4 aging cats; BJ, Simba, Nino and Kiki. All had greasy, rough yet dry coats. I fed the blueberry chicken foods as snacks first. They went for it immediately so I gradually switched over from their other dry kibble. They have water fountains and water in bowls and they all drink well. Within a few weeks I saw some changes. Their coats changed to sleek, soft and shiny and healthy looking. They seem brighter. My obese Nino is more easily sated so eats less and is starting to slim down. BJ was diagnosed with a rare high phosphate disorder through a test sent to University of Michigan. The low phosphate content means he is more energetic and talkative and his stools which tended on the dry side are softer. My ragdoll Kiki’s pelt is even more magnificent and she has fewer fewer hair balls. Siamese Simba simply shines in the sun and fur has feeling like mink and seems to have more energy. I could not be happier. I bought this food to get them away from the junky stuff and unknown rendered products maybe full of drugs toxic to cats ( aging horses are often full of banamine for pain when they are carted off to the rendering plant after their deaths) incommercial food and help their health. Or really has.

My 1 year old cat prefers this to wet food. I’ve never seen anything like it. He eagerly goes to eat this stuff. I keep it fresh in glass jars, maybe its appeal lasts longer that way. I tried the other kinds thinking he’d like variety, and he did eat it, but not eagerly. Sticking with this one!

I have 2 young female part ragdoll cats who have experienced soft stool issues and diarrhea since I adopted them as kittens. The royal canin kitten food has corn & wheat in them & I began to think this was a major contributor. In desperation, as soon as I was able, I decided to try the limited ingredient chicken & blueberry kibble, as other kibbles with 5-6 different proteins seemed too much for their tummies to handle. They both immediately loved this kibble, and for the first time since I adopted them, I saw improvements in their stools. Unfortunately they won’t eat the soft canned chicken first mate so I’ve had to try a couple of other soft foods. I hope first mate never stops making this food! It’s so helpful for those with sensitive tummies & possible wheat & corn allergies.

Great limited ingredient food that is enjoyed by many cats. We tried it due to having a cat with many food sensitivities. Wondering why the phosphorus and ash content is so high. Have a cat with early kidney disease so lower phosphorus would be better. Thanks!

    • Hello Nancy,

Thank you for your kind comments!

Our formulas are higher phosphorus because they are formulated for All Life Stages, and need to provide appropriate nutrition for growth and reproduction. Our formulas are also high in meat-based protein (and meat contains phosphorus). Because of the high content of meat meals (providing the high meat-based protein), the ash also tends to be higher. Our cat products would be considered moderate ash.

You will be excited to know that we are working on a Senior cat formula with lower phosphorus.

      Best wishes,
