I recently switched my small, mixed breed dog to First Mate Chicken with Blueberries Small Bites. It was highly-recommended by my local, independent pet store, primarily because the label clearly states the percentage of the food that is meat. Many other highly-rated kibbles list meat as the first ingredient, but don’t state what percentage it is. My dog LOVES this food. I did a taste test by putting two little piles next to each other — the First Mate and her other highly-rated kibble. She ate every last piece of the First Mate before moving to the other one. I love that the kibble size is perfect for a small dog.

I feed my three Aussies (almost 13 down to almost three years old) and my English Cocker Spaniel pup (6 months) this food. Even the harsh coat on my ECS shines like black velvet. I am bummed that the town I am considering moving to doesn’t carry this food.

Trying to find a grain-free legume-free pea-free diet for a dog with sensitivities was nearly impossible. But with First Mate Chicken and Blueberries, I found everything I needed! Plus it is very calorie dense, so I feed a small amount, making it worth the cost. I am able to feed it to my adult and my puppy too, so adding the convenience factor. Great food and great company!!
